How can we address the rising burden of global mental health together?

Today’s interconnected world is seeing a rising mental health burden and Global mental health (GMH) as a field is a holistic approach to nurture the mental well-being of people worldwide. GMH combines various fields, including psychology, psychiatry, nursing, social work, education, public health, including humanitarian and developmental work to drive impactful practice, advocacy, research and innovation across silos and borders to reach the global population.

Welcome to the website of The Norwegian Network for Global Mental Health (est. 2012), where we share global resources on GMH, insights and news from network members, in addition to upcoming events (physical & digital), and the biennial Nordic MHPSS Nordic conference.

Imagine a world where the narrative around mental and emotional wellbeing is shifted to being an integral part of the human experience.

To achieve that we, together with the Nordic networks we aligned our goals in the Nordic Roadmap for MHPSS, divided into 7 priority actions:

1. Capacity and systems strengthening
2. Programme design and implementation
3. Cross-sectoral integration and evidence
4. Multisectoral and interagency partnerships
5. Policy frameworks and processes
6. Innovative approaches
7. Resource mobilisation

Aligned actions to increase support, investment and contributions to strengthen the local communities and health systems in fragile and humanitarian settings.

What we have contributed to as a network

The Norwegian network has been part of shaping the agenda and prioritization of Global Mental Health in the network members overall work, and in the same way influencing the Norwegian government and NORADs support for GMH. The network and its members continue to promote and include GMH as an integral part of the agenda, in the different spaces they operate.

Together, as part of the Nordic network, we co-hosted the first Nordic conference in Copenhagen, Denmark in 2022, leading to the creation of "The Nordic Roadmap for MHPSS in fragile and humanitarian settings”. Followed by a 2nd conference in Malmø, Sweden in 2024, continuing the alignment and collaborative work on achieving the actions and goals in the road map.

This year in 2026, we are hosting the 3rd Nordic conference in Oslo, Norway emphasizing the importance of a shared vision on global mental health in our ever changing world.
